Dear Parents,
The Harvest Festival is tonight from 5-9 pm! I hope to see you there!
Grammar: The students will focus on adding interesting adjectives to their sentences and being able to find the noun, verb and adjective in a sentence.
Comprehension: The focus will be on story structure this week.
Word Wall Words: him every once
Phonics: We will continue learning phonograms, two or more letters that when written together, make one or more different sounds. This week we will learn the sounds that CH and WH.
Reading Workshop: Students are learning to use their good habits to read independently and with their reading partners. They are learning about character traits and comparing/contrasting characters in a story. Please continue to read at least 20 minutes with your child every night.
Writing Workshop: It is time to celebrate! All first graders have written a small moment story and we invite you to come to our class Friday at 8 to enjoy listening to the stories! Hope to see you then!
If you cannot make it, we understand, and you can enjoy listening to your child read you his/her book at home as all students will be taken their stories home on Friday.
Science: With the power outage, we had to postpone our lesson on different types of pumpkins. We will do this lesson next week.
Star of the Week: We had a great time this week learning all about Brayden and his family heritage and can't wait for the next Star of the Week. We are so excited to learn more about our new classmates.

Math: We are in the second half of Module 1 of our Engage New York Math Program and now working with addition AND subtraction equations/word problems. We will learn about double numbers and double numbers +1. The students will review the "Doubles song" to help them learn double facts. Please continue to work on math facts to 10. This will help your child build a strong foundation in addition and subtraction.
